Dr inż. Aleksandra Jedlińska among the winners of the MINIATURA 6 competition
Dr inż. Aleksandra Marzena Jedlińska will receive PLN 49,500. for the implementation of preliminary/pilot studies entitled Investigation of the mechanism of low-temperature spray drying with dried air, based on the concept of glass transition.
The aim of the research task is to conduct basic research on the influence of the temperature difference between the drying air (exhaust, T) and the glass transition temperature of the material (Tg) on the possibility of obtaining a powder in the case of low-temperature spray drying with dry air (DASD). DASD is an innovative method that allows to reduce the inlet temperature from 160-220°C (in the case of traditional spray drying) to even 75°C, while reducing the outlet temperature T from approx. 80-90°C to 45-55°C. Reducing the humidity in the air increases the driving force for water evaporation and makes it possible to remove it at lower temperatures. The use of a lower drying temperature significantly increases the possibility of spray drying and the quality of the obtained powders. It becomes possible to dry without the use of carriers or with a small content of materials with low Tg, such as products with a high content of simple sugars or acids – fruit juices and honey. This is in line with the current clean label trend. The positive results of drying some materials using the DASD method, obtained in the course of the applicant’s previous research, lead to undertaking basic research aimed at verifying the above concept of glass transformation as affecting the drying effect.
Congratulations on your achievement!
