100TH ANNIVERSARY OF PROFESSOR DR. HAB. ADOLF HORUBAŁA, DR H.C.

On January 6, 2025, Professor Dr. Adolf Horubała, PhD, emeritus of our Faculty/Institute, turned 100! On this occasion, we extend our best wishes for health and prosperity to the Professor!
After graduating, Professor Adolf Horubała joined the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) in 1951, obtaining subsequent academic degrees and titles, up to the title of full professor (1982). He held successive positions, from assistant professor to Head of the Department of Fermentation and Fruit and Vegetable Industry Technology (1971-1989). His enormous contribution to the development of his alma mater also included his work as Vice-Rector of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (1981-1984), twice as Dean of the Faculty of Food Technology (1966-1971 and 1979-1981), and as Director of the Institute of Food Technology (1971-1978). He supervised 11 doctoral dissertations, and under his supervision, three colleagues completed their habilitations and earned the title of professor.
The scientific achievements of Professor Adolf Horubała, mainly concerning the development of new methods of food preservation, explanation of the mechanisms of thermal degradation of food ingredients and the quality of fruit and vegetable products, include dozens of publications and several textbooks.
On December 16, 1997, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) awarded the Professor the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa.
Thanks to his great authority in the scientific community, Professor Adolf Horubała became a member of the Committee on Food Technology and Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Committee on Microbiology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (since 1966), a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (since 1986), a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (since 1998), and from 1987 to 1993, Chairman of the Committee on Food Technology and Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In recognition of his contributions to Polish science, and particularly his contribution to the development of agricultural and forestry sciences, Professor Adolf Horubała received the M. Oczapowski Medal (1997).
