Competition for a research scholarship in the NCN OPUS 27 project
The head of the OPUS 27 project entitled “The role of the metabolome of selected fungal strains in the process of dry-aging beef” (no. 2024/53/B/NZ9/01101) financed by the National Science Centre announces a competition for a research scholarship for two students at the Department of Food Technology and Evaluation, Institute of Food Sciences, Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

Position 1 – requirements:
- completed first-cycle studies in food technology and human nutrition or a related field
- status of a second-cycle student in the field of food technology and human nutrition at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW)
- knowledge and practical skills in the field of meat technology
- knowledge of basic markings used in assessing meat quality, with particular emphasis on the analysis of chemical composition and physicochemical parameters
- ability to prepare reports on conducted analyses and experiments
- knowledge of English at a level enabling the use of scientific literature
- practical knowledge of Word, Excel and Power Point
- strong motivation for scientific work, commitment to the implementation of planned research, ability to work individually and in a team, independence
- availability, reliability, punctuality, diligence and responsibility for the entrusted work
- An additional advantage will be knowledge of beef maturation methods and the willingness to complete a master’s thesis on the project topic.
Position 1 – description of tasks:
Preparation of chemical reagents for testing. Performing assays and measurements of selected meat quality characteristics (chemical and physicochemical analyses) during aging. Data entry into the computer, preliminary analysis and interpretation of results based on available literature data, and preparation of reports. Compilation of a master’s thesis on the project topic.
Position 2 – requirements:

- knowledge and practical skills in the field of meat technology

- An additional advantage will be scientific activity (e.g. participation in conferences, research projects, scientific publications).
Position 2 – description of tasks:
Preparation of samples for testing. Performing assays and measurements of selected meat quality characteristics (physicochemical analyses and texture measurements) during aging. Data entry into the computer, preliminary analysis and interpretation of results based on available literature data, and preparation of reports. Preparing results for publication.
Candidates will be assessed primarily in terms of their competence to carry out the tasks specified in the project.

Terms of employment
The project scholarship period will be 10 months, from September 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension. The scholarship amount is PLN 1,250 per month. Scholarships will be awarded based on a scholarship agreement. The competition will be conducted in accordance with the Regulations for awarding NCN scholarships in research projects financed by the National Science Centre (Annex to NCN Council Resolution No. 25/2024 of 4 March 2024).
Recruitment is a two-stage process and includes:
- formal verification of submitted documents and substantive assessment of formally correct offers (until April 15, 2025)
- an interview (direct or via electronic communication channels) with selected candidates after prior arrangement of the date (no later than April 25, 2025).
